Thread: No drive!

    No drive!

    So there was me trying to reverse out of a tricky spot and bang!, oil weeping from the drivers front hub area.
    so whats gone wrong?, disengaged cdl and no drive, engage cdl and drives. jacked up wheel with cdl locked and wheel spins freely.

    what size nut is it to remove the hub et'al?, not done this before but keen to have a look see what the problem is, suspect been our daily driver the job will go to someone more competant and i will be on the bus next week.

    odds on a blown short (drivers) half shaft on the front end.

    to check which end of the vehicle has the problem take the parkbrake off, turn the CDL off chock the wheels and let it idle in first. look under the spinning propshaft connects to the diff with the broken part attached.

    I'd say a broken axle or CV or both, should have rang me, I could of dropped by to help on my way to Phils.

    Good to hear you made it home OK Liam. I was crook all weekend & actually stopped for a snooze on the Freeway which is why I never caught you up again. A policeman took advantage & used my RR as a speedtrap cover though .

    If you get stuck Liam, one of the mechanics at work does 'home' work but he's in Liverpool.

    If it's dropping oil then I would also guess at it being the inner axle near the CV' The D2 CV's neck down in that area. Talking to Barry at HTE, I guessed it was for more lock, he guessed it was to ensure that is the location where a failure would occur.

    You should keep those parts incase you break something else and need another CV, boot or whatever. Also, the oil seal on the axle near the CV boot can be used if you ever get Ashcroft etc axles/CV's.

    Put that one on the busted parts trophy shelf!
