The larger rubber is the key to that otherwise 16's with the same amount of rubber would have to be better. In Qld we are very restricted and could never get away with 18's with a total of 33 inch. On sand of course its not about wide, flat contact (ie think pushing a log in sand) but lengthways contact area which of course 16's do the best between the 2 sizes.Quote:

Went on our adventure a couple of weekends ago and thought I would update the thread. Only had one worthwhile photo as I couldn't be bothered getting out of the car and taking any (sorry). It is beautiful country around adelaide river (NT) and there are heaps of interesting tracks winding through escarpment type country which I tried to highlight with the photos background. We don't get much high country up here. The area was used during the war for various camps and you still find various bottle dumps and infrastructures left behind from the diggers.
Our tail took us about an hour to travel 15km with the final destination being a beautiful spring fed swimming hole, the track was a mixture of rock and sand with a couple of reasonably challenging creek crossings. I was unbeliveably impressed with our disco and can honestly say it was the better car to be in of our group which was made up of a hilux, a rodeo and us in the disco. On one particulary steep rocky incline the TC kicked in and we shot up the hill which the other cars really struggled with. The biggest challenge of the trail was clearance but I had the air springs fully extended and never had a problem.
Dropped the pressure a bit in the tyres as suggested and would agree that this is helpfull on the rocks, if for comfort only but less damaging to the tyres I think.
