Had mine out recently as I was doing some work on the battery box and EGR gear. On close inspection, I noticed that my ECU wouldn't handle anymore than a light 'splash' as the whole assembly hasn't been made to be waterproof.

Your's however seems to have holes drilled through the case -

While there are some cable kits available on the market for those who want to relocate their ECU into the glovebox or behind the dash....and if you were reeeeally keen you could do that - I'm not all that concerned about water ingress as the actual circuit board inside the outer case is fully waterproof.

The ECU on my race-bike has a similar style 'case' and is subject to the full effect of rain if it happens to be a wet race meeting and has never missed a beat in years .

I've immersed the complete front of a TD5 and same, same - the ECU wasn't affected (Shame about the fan blades though )

IMHO - the area that would be more affected would be the ECU plugs getting wet and starting corrosion, leading to poor connectivety.

If it was my ECU - I'd probably silicone up the drill holes so water couldn't 'pool' inside. It's a guess but perhaps a past owner tried to relocate the ECU and decided to drill some mounting holes in it
