TD5 fuel in the oil,
the second could be important,,
not that I take much notice of TD5 problems---
Hi everyone,
New to forum, new to Land Rover. Bought myself a 1999 manual td5 (one owner, full history 96 000kms)
And love it, feel as if i will now always own a landrover. It was only serviced 4000kms ago and have noticed a few annoying issues.
1. A fuel filter light sometimes comes on, stays on for 2 sec and then won't reappear for a maybe 2 weeks or two months. Its amber and suggest water in the fuel but states its ok to continue driving. Is it a big deal if i hardley see it?
2. A rattle when i take off in 1st, from the rear. Suspect maybe a muffler rattle, had a look, nothing too obviously loose.
3. Where do you go to get a glovebox clip repaired?
4. Small oil leak from sump. Sump plug secure, oil leaking from the seal/bolts on the side. Oil is full, overfilled if anything. Suspect too much oil and leaking from side due to pressure. Intentions are to dump some oil then make sure everything is tight.
Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

Hi danprowse
Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of info in THE GOOD OIL.
Small oil leak from sump. Oil is full, overfilled if anything. Might be a good idea to check oil daily weekly to be sure it’s not making oil. Have a read of this link: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/good-oil/1...-fuel-oil.html
Oil leak could be coming from the oil filter behind the turbo, sometimes they are only put on finger tight as they are not the easiest to get too..
The rest is as Pedro said..Happy searching/reading..
Cheers Ean
Welcome aboard.
OIL LEAK. Remove the engine cover(4 bolts) check rocker cover gasket, especially at the back of the motor,EASY FIX.As suggested re-tension oil filter, they do come loose on the TD5.Also check the oil pressure sender(down behind turbo).
FUEL FILTER LIGHT.Ignore, they are faulty and were later deleted, only need to check for water if it stays on.
RATTLE.Loose baffle??? rattles are hard to diagnose over the internet
GLOVEBOX. Member Bundalene(Erich) wrecks D2s,Im sure he can help you out,Erich is a nice bloke, very helpfull.
Enjoy the D2,seriously consider upgrading the ECU(if its not already done),turns a nice vehicle into a great vehicle.Mine too is a 99 manual, the difference is amazing.
ENJOY THE D2.
They are great vehicles.

Only have 2 things to add to this.
If the oil drips onto the driveway and eventually gets worse, then it will probably need to be addressed, if not I wouldn't bother about it, it's a Land Rover after all
The water in fuel light can be solved by buying a new sensor, they are cheap and easy to replace, unscrew the old one off the fuel filter and screw the new one on
