How to fit Shocks to D2 TD5

    Hi

I am about to fit my new Dobinson shocks to my disco. Any tips out there?

Do I need to compress remove the springs to fit the shocks?

    Cheers

no you dont need to compress the springs, you can drop the sway bar links i did it last week, was pretty easy.

If you are are only doing shocks you dont need to jack the rear. I did mine when it was sitting on the ground.
Like Travis said with the front undo the sway bar links. From memory you may have to watch the front drive shaft on the cross member under it. I'm sure some one will correct me if i am wrong.

    hi,
this thread came right on time..

does anyone know if 2'' raised OME springs need to be compressed to get out?

plus, would i run into any problems if i leave the OME shocks on and put stock springs back on?

dont laugh... ive got really good reasons for lowering it (for a while)

    thanks

Mine had to be compressed to get them in, so I guess they need to be compressed to get them out (that's on the front at least - I have air springs on the back).

I assume your OME shocks are +2".
The only issue I see here is the shocks may bottom out at times. If you are lowering the vehicle though, you probably don't plan to go off road so they should be fine.

If it is just the "Shockers" as you have said, then you dont need to do anything apart from undo some nuts & bolts with the vehicle sitting on a flat surface.
The springs can stay in situ while removing the shockers.

Rears should be a five minute job, undo the nuts on the top/bottom, replace with new shockers & refit new nuts/washers & domes & your done.

Fronts undo the nut that holds the shocker on the front diff, you may have to find a pipe wrench to hold the shockers so it doesnt rotate while undoing it. Then remove the 4 nuts on the shocker tower just above the spring, you can then remove the whole shocker tower with shocker attached, then undo the shocker from the tower & refit in reverse.

Fronts are a little more time consuming but are quite easy.

    HTH Cheers.

Mine are 2 inch lifed Dobinsons, the springs will go in once I have got the Compressor working to fit my air bags.
    Thanks

Still a very easy job on the rear.

And make sure you have an 18mm socket in your tool kit - I didn't!

If you want to replace the bolts I found the LR dealer had the lowers only p/n KYP500250.
