Same... Usually about 300-350 in the first half. I'll be interested to see if 98 makes any difference. I doubt it, but it's a fun challenge.

    Mines the same.
Is there no way to make these gauges more "accurate"?

This is my first post. I just bought a 2000 D2 V8 in Brisbane and drove it up to Cairns, with about 800 kgs of camper trailer behind it.

I noticed with regards to the fuel gauge that the first marker under "full" represented about 20 L used, and every marker after that represented 10L. This proved to be a very accurate way of knowing how much fuel I had used and how much was going to go in at the bowser.

Depending on the sector, I was using 17L/100, or 18L/100, and this small difference was noticable on the fuel gauge, as I knew what each marker represented.

Incidently the halfway mark on the fuel gauge represents 50L used, well at least on my gauge anyway.

    God I love my D2 (2002V8),,
That's an interesting piece of info about liters used,, I'll have to check that out. At present I'm the same, getting about 300-350 from the first half, then up to just over 500 (525) till the light comes on. However, on a trip up to Albury and back last weekend, I put her in sports mode, as suggested by someone here, and it looks like I may get well over the 525 out of this tank. It's just clicked over 400ks and the last 80 have been around town, and it's sitting on the 3/4 mark,,,
Will let you know what it finishes at later,, oh, and I'm running 95ron

    supercharger?

I'm thinking of supercharging mine to maybe improve economy. My theory is more power will allow the engine to tick along easier at 100kmh. Thoughts?

I have an 01 auto. Fully loaded with gear, 265/75 mtz and rhino roof bars and plenty of accessories and A very heavy foot we get 280-290k out of 55l of LPG on the highway and about 250 around town. Standard gearing. And it's not scary to overtake road trains.

    Fuel and consumption

Acquired my 2000 D2 V8 manual a few years ago with engine problems. Previous owner reported constant pinging. Head gasket, MAF and knock sensor.
They ran 91 always. English vehicles are designed to run on much higher octane fuel than that.
    Since owning have always run 98. 13.5 - 14L/100. Towing the boat, 18 - 20L/100.
Because of where we live, a round trip to work meant 140klms of highway driving. Sat on around 3000rpm with the standard tyres. Too high for my liking. Not sure what the speedo was reading.
Have just replaced the mud tyres with the new Maxxis 764's and have left them on to note the difference, 265/75R16.

    now theres a combo,,
    knock sensor and constant pinging,,

well according to RAVE, (and common sense) these things will run on anything,, 91 and up.

Thats the reason behind the knock sensor,
it senses a knock(pinging) and adjusts the timing,
and it tests this a lot! BMW called this self tuning or something,
and advertised the amount of tests per minute, and it was in the hundreds!

The only aftermarket technology you can bolt on to a Rover V8 to get much better fuel economy, well in fact not better fuel economy but less cost per kilometre driven is LPG and that will take years to recover the installation cost if you only drive average k's per year.

Often the person who benefits the most from a LPG installation is the next buyer of the vehicle who doesn't pay that much more for the car then for one without LPG fitted.

D2 V8's aren't economical and never will be but we all should have known that before we bought them so its just case of accepting the facts as they are and just move on and enjoy the vehicle for what it is.

    cheers,
    Terry
