    I got a Td5 for several reasons.
    1. P plater, can't drive V8.
    2. What i'd save in purchase price, i'd quickly make up for in fuel costs
    3. prefer diesel for offroading.
    4. (and this is just being picky) The "Td5" badge on the back looks better
Maybe you were just used to the foot down-ness of the V8s, mum nearly burned the auto box out after hopping in the disco from her subaru
I've worked out exactly how to get the Td5 purring along very nicely, and apparently the 0-60 time of the V8 is only a second faster.
It's only performance v8's such as the ss or xr8 that your not allowed to drive on your p's, my friend has a v8 hilux he drove his whole p's got pulled up many times and never had an issue cause its all about power to weight

Never said it was factory lol it's a 84 with a 308 Holden motor, and I'm in new and nsw and my cousin got his green p's and he drives a v8 land cruiser and his allowed to drive that? As I haven't been on my p's for years I wouldn't know the laws but his old man is a cop so I would assume he would t let his son break the law

Just talked to my cousin and he said a week after he got his red p's he done an Rta approved advanced driver course at eastern creek, any p plater who does this coarse is allowed to drive any car they like v8 or turbo performance vehicle, it explains why I see so many p platers around Penrith being tools lol

Current regs for NSW P2 (Green):

    Restrictions for P2 licences
Vehicles – You must not drive any vehicle with:
    - Eight or more cylinders.
    - A turbocharged or supercharged engine (diesel powered engines exempt).
    - Modifications that increase engine performance.
    - Any other vehicle identified by Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) – further details available on Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) website.

    Please note exemptions may apply.

The advanced driver training must be one of the exemptions.

Small capacity petrol turbos are also allowed with a letter of exemption, my mate drives a turbo saab.
Not that you'd get in the car with him, he's dangerous.

Forget turbos and V8's. Get in a Rodeo with my Father in law. THATS taking your life into your own hands.
For some reason, the car has an inherent bad design when he's owned three utes, and they all slide out in the rain, especially when empty.
