I'll be doing the same, I've got the V8 and I'm sick of it not sounding like one!!!
Got quoted $150 to remove the 44galon drum from the centre & just replace with same size piping but I was also told there's no need to remove the resonator from the rear as it is "straight through" anyways?
I'll see how it sounds and performs after the centre one is gone and go from there:)

What an afternoon I had yesterday! Wel,, I couldn't wait until Wednesday to get it checked and the prospect of simply tightening a few nuts to fix the problem sounded too easy.
Upon crawling under the car I could see there was soot around the passnger side flange at the manifold. I could also see that one of the nuts wasn't done all the way up. As soon as I tried to tighten it, it sheared off the mounting bolt. Bugger.
The only easy solution for a sheared bolt seemed to be removing the manifold.
So I wnt about removing the other nuts, one came free easily enough and the third one sheared off also.
I then went about getting the passenger side manifold out. To my surprise, the bottum bolt closest to the firewall was loose to the point that I could undo it with my fingers. The others all came free without drama.
The gaskest at the manifiold to exhuast flange was cactus, but the manifold gaskets were in OK condition.
I then set about getting the sheared bolts out, thank goodness for monkey wrenchs!
Some twit had previously cross thread two of the bolts, to the point that one of them would not screw down all the way. No wonder one of the nuts wouldn't do up all the way to the flange.
Such a pain in the butt given that this will make getting new bolts into the manifold all the more difficult.
Off I went to get the spares. 4 new bolts and nuts (just incase another on sheared off), 1 new manifold to exhaust gasket and new manifold gaskets.
After very carefully screwing in the new bolts (making sure they were seated all the way down), everything went back together with ease.
As a final check (after seeing one of the passenger side manifold bolts loose) I thought I'd check the driver side manifold and flange. Yes, a few of the manifold bolts were loose. Unfortunately the front bottom bolt head sheared off as soon as I tried to tighten it. It literally came off with little force, so that's got to be fixed soon too. I just didn't have time to rip another manifold off and source parts.
The drivers side flange was also loose, but thankfully that tightened up with no issues.
After that mission I hoped that the ticking problem had been cured, so off on a quick test drive I went. Hey presto, no more ticking.... For the moment.
I can see this issue resurfacing in the future, so I'm already planning on a complete exhuast upgrade.

I'm kind of leaning towards the headers instead of the Magnaflow catback. At least with the headers I can then omit the centrepipe and add some aftermaket cats, leaving the rear of the exhuast as it is.

A friend of mine removed the centre muffler and just left the resonator,, it was bloody loud but sounded very nice, then he removed the resonator as well and now it just sounds like a v8 super car :)

My wife loved the sound of our disco, she was worried about how loud it would be in the cab too, but was very happy with the way i had it.
I just had the massive centre muffler removed today. Had it replaced with an SRT straight through sports muffler.
Sounds trick now, just like a V8 at should and not a vacuum cleaner come washing machine.
I'm still debating with myself about the extractors.
