Warning Chime - SLS
Situation: Recently bought a 2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II and had it shipped to Papua New Guinea (Third World Country) and located in a remote area of the country. Vehicle was suppose to be in good mechanical order, however on arrival it was found to be poorly maintained. Anyway we have to do with what we have now. There are no Land Rover repairers here in country or any other reliable repairer. There are many issues with it although it is drivable, but don't know for how long. We are currently working on one issue at a time starting with the most, what we think is, serious issue.
The SLS. The warning light was on continuously and the back end was sitting very low. Based on all advise and options we could find on this forum it is believed to be the compressor. Therefore, we bypassed the compressor based on some very informative information from this web site. So, after several photos, hand gestures and artistic drawings we were able to purchase some truck valves from a local tire shop and fit them to the rear suspension. We now have rear suspension.
Question: The first of many for the forum; The audible warning chime continues to sound every time we go over 30kph. How do we stop the noise without destroying the speaker behind the dash?
One thread suggested removing a 30 amp fuse from the engine compartment fuse box, however the only one I can find remotely related to the SLS is the fuse for the ABS. Will this affect the ABS if removed?
We are in the process of ordering replacement parts, however for anything to come here takes a long time and is not always going to make it. Anyway, we need to keep this vehicle going for as long as possible so as to avoid the local Rascals with their rock throwing and home made guns. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome
The SLS warning chime usually sounds when you have the suspension lifted to max and then travel over (30km/h?) a certain speed. The system will then lower to 'normal' height.
If yours is chiming you may have your bags extended too much. SLS is good when it is working but a pain in the @#$ when not.
some people remove the airbags and replace with coils.
I opted to sell the car and get one with coils
cheers

As per the first response for the chime. Your air bags are now too high and the sensors are telling the computer to lower the rear.
I have the SLS system and love it...but you are in a whole different circumstance for parts.
You will be best off replacing the Air Springs / Bags (get them from the UK Paddock Spares Abot $340 AUDD Delivered) Your problem will continue otherwise.
If the vehicle has been on its tail for a while then you will likely have damaged the compressor also (again from the UK about $460 AUD) Sounds like yours is shot.
Now if your parts are likely to never arrive (PNG has that problem sometimes)
or money is tight, I would certainly ship in a pair of springs, top insulators and locator seats. (about 500AUD maybe as little as 350 AUD if you trawl the net)
This will eliminate any future worries. Without any diagnostic equipment it will be best to pull the fuses/ relays associated with the sls after you fit the springs. If you can get diagnostics , it is 5 minute task to tell the SLABS ECU that you have coils.
The chimes will continue until you disable the SLS.
cheers
