I do mine every 10 ... the service book says every 10 but every other service is a minor one.

My old one was done every 10k and it never missed a beat... in fact I reckon if I get the wreck back, the engine and trans (which as mentioned was rec'd only 30k ago will be a good buy for someone.
The D2A I've bought has been done every 10k also.

To me, the auto sounds like it might just need a oil & filter change.

Pulling 4k on the tacho, and then expecting perfectly smooth shifts might be a bit much. How did the trans go when you drove it smoothly? Ie: at around 2.5k rpm?

And as Pedro said. The SLS remote was an option on an option. And, about $500 worth of option, which most people didn't seem to take up. Especially when you consider it is really a "nice to have occasionally" option, rather than, "yea, I will need that a fair bit"

Besides, if the compressor is still there, then putting air bags back in wont be too hard.

I bought one a few months ago and learnt;

statutory warranty in Victoria is 3 months for cars under 10 years/150000klms - check you local authority websites for details and exclusions - you'd be surprised.

If it looks or sounds dodgey, just walk away mate. There's plenty out there and dont be affraid to throw in some low offers. Heaps are in there for months and won't get a call if they're $5000 dearer than all the others.

It shouldn't be that hard to get simple and quick answers from the original owner, and it is your right to have their details and call them! They have nothing to lose as the cars already gone anyway. It should be the most honest answers you'll get.

I think I may have narrowed your choice down to the Gold one up the end of the deadend street. I too have been looking at D2a's for several months. Knight's House of Rover are inspecting the White one, from the Newstead dealer, for me tomorrow.

I got the same story re MR although I was only going to use Knights, but when I asked the dealer if he had any objections to me having it inspected by a LR Specialist he said straight up front that it depended on which specialist and so I asked him which specialist was not an option and he said Redcliffe one. Said they tried to hit him up for $$ to give a good report on another car in the past. He even offered to take it up to the Sunshine Coasst to British Off Road, anywhere except Redcliffe.

Looked at the Gold one and at the time it had a sagging hood linning. football boot studs scratched dash and a scrape on the front guard passenger side. This was first advertised at $33K then dropped to 29 and now 25,750. I didn't like the colour and really wanted a white one.

The 4X4 dealer at Aspley had a good white one (2004 TD5 S Auto Classic) for $30K with 133K on the clock. I believe they got 28 and a half, I offered 24.

Hopefully Knights will give a favourable unbiased report and i'll finally be a Land Rover owner.

The auto shifts smoothly when driven normally but when pushed it should still be able to knock up a gear without any fuss. I had a look around on the forum here and had a long talk with Jason from MR and sounds like the air flow meter might be the culprit. Anyway the owner knows I am not handing over any money until it is sorted out!!

The owner also got back to me today and advised that the auto is due a service and that her husband did indeed get the airbags replaced with springs after noticing it sagging to one side.

There were two more services to the vehicle and they have the service receipts but house of rover did not stamp the log book (???)

I didn't notice the roof lining but will check on Friday. The scrap is just paint and can be buffed out. The scrapes on the dash are disappointing but I guess that is the price of children. This is why I want leather; easy to clean and no stains that smell. This car has been a kid carrier all its life and the under body is the cleanest I have seen.

The white one
Hey Lester, yeah white with black leather is nice. I liked the fact that I drove it without any issues and it still has the airbags in place. Also the dealer has been using it as his run around for the last couple of months so it is getting used, which means it should be working!

When I saw it the dealer had not had it fixed up. There were a few dings and scrapes around the rear panels, the rear bumper was damaged and the flares are pretty badly sun damaged. Also the AC fan was making a hell of a racket. I assume now that the dealer has repaired all these things. Also one of the headlights was hanging on by a thread so check to see if the bracket is damaged.

The big issue for me was the spray paint on the underside of the car around the fuel tank. Whatever you do get this checked out. Could be a harmless attempt by the previous owner at rust proofing or something not so good for a new owner.

The MR thing is interesting. Told me that they were too thorough and I would never end up buying a LR if I used them for my inspection!

How was the service history on that white one? I cant remember now.
