Steering wheel audio controls and aftermarket head units
HI all
I recently purchased a steering wheel from an ES disco, which has the audio controls. My D2 does not have audio controls standard and I also have a Pioneer head unit, so my questions are;
1. will the loom be there for the audio controls, from the steering wheel to the head unit? I looked inside the steering wheel with the air bag out, and the wiring from the audio controls and cruise control seems to be going to one plug. (I do not have my standard steering wheel off yet to check, if the plug is different for models without the audio controls.
2. If the loom is there...has anyone been able to successfully hook up the audio controls to their new aftermarket head unit? My Pioneer head unit has a remote out put at the back, which I am assuming is for the audio controls.

Hi Hendrick,
The wiring is only there for the top spec ES/HSE variants as the radio is fitted in the UK. (also for the 03/04MY vehicles only as head unit again fitted in the UK)
Many people have asked can it be done, well it could but for a price & not a lot of people are interested in doing such things "in case" something goes wrong.
The wiring in the steering wheel will go to the spiral cassette (behind steering wheel) & it wont go any further if it is not an ES/HSE or 03/04MY.
Sorry

Check out the recent "new head unit" thread.
It details aftermarket head units and steering wheel controls.
You might also want to PM "resection" regarding adding steering wheel controls as I believe he has done this. Hope this helps.

Alpine makes a head unit that is programable to the D2.
There is a previous thread regarding this. Quite some time ago though.
