    Rosscoe,

is that for the engine oil? If so, make sure you buy a genuine one, shop around. And some of them DON'T come with Orings and gasket, either, so make sure you get them included. Don't forget also to replace the little coolant hose at the back of the cooler to the steel pipe that runs behind the engine.

    I wouldn't bypass it.

thanks JC as usual, prompt to answer
oil cooler out and there's pitting on it, also lots of alloy corrosion sludge buildup. will take it down and get pressure tested, i am hoping it fails so i don't have to take the head off
the water outlet at top of head is also corroding away, but the water gallery in the head looks ok after the elbow was taken off. no coolant at some time in the past is the diagnosis thus far. in a way its a shame the oil cooler didn't let go earlier and put an anti corrosive coating on the inside of the cooling system, heh

    Cheers.
Im doing a major cooling system overhaul on mine over the Xmas break,250000ks.Radiator,big intercooler, waterpump, thermostat, viscous hub etc.ALL hoses replaced last year.Had a minor head gasket failure at 220000ks(started to loose coolant out of the header tank in small amounts so OFF WITH THE HEAD).
Xmas work is preventative maintance to ensure the D2 is up to towing a heavy camper trailer in the Kimberleys.
I intended removing and inspecting the oil cooler as part of the overhaul.

looks like i am only the second owner of this car, and i have found out that the previous owner has never had the oil pump bolt checked as well. off with the sump before it goes any further. although at 300k maybe it was one that they got right from the factory.

My Oil cooler blew about 6mths ago, just under $1700 for the job as they replaced all my coolant hoses as well.

It sounded like there was leaking water under the dash which turned out to be the oil filling the cooling system.

I would have done it myself if I had know better/more about the car but wasnt sure if it was the head or the cooler.

I found the rediculous part being that you cannot get the cooler without ordering the outer cover/plate for it as well when the old one was serviceable and it again didnt come with the gaskets either had to wait for them.

Now that I have been doing services myself with the help of this forum/local landy guru's I am certain I would have a go at it in future.

gave me a good excuse to pull the i/c and give it a flush at the same time. rad is in to be cleaned and checked as well.
while its apart might even accidently let the egr system fall off it as well.
