    Disco Woes. Suspension and Stalling.

    Hi again fellow disco lovers,
I've got a 2002 disco V8, and well lately the rear air suspension has been playing up quite a bit. Sometimes I can leave it for days without driving on our street and it doesn't drop at all, however if it is parked on relatively uneven terrain both sides can go down to the bump stops in less than an hour, turn it on and it pops right back up in about 2 minutes...? any idea what the issue might be?

Also today out of nowhere, I was driving through West End and pulled up at a set of traffic lights, had only been driving for about 10 minutes and it just stalled... wouldn't start. the engine was turning over but just wouldn't go...
I pushed the heavy beast up the street and out of the way of traffic and after talking to my father about it, i gave her one last kick in the guts and it started perfectly, no problems at all. after it had been resting for about 15 minutes
I limped it home about 5k's and it stalled again on a nasty hill, but this time it kicked over no probs.

has anyone had these issues before or anyone local to Brisbane have a nanocom or the like to test and see what is wrong with the bloody thing?

I love the car and would desperately like it to be going properly.

    thanks again guys, Khal.

    Khal,

You will definitely be up for replacement rear air bags as the car is approaching 10 yrs which is about the life of them. Plenty of good advice her on AULRO already written. Do a search for SLS airbags.

Cant help you about the stalling, someone else will chip in here?

    good luck

Yep, sounds like your airbags could use replacing. Not a major job.

The stalling and struggling to re-start... Stalling is an interesting one, if it was running and then stalled, there could be a fuel supply issue, which could then translate to starting issues too. Maybe your fuel pump is failing, or your filter is blocked up with gunk, or maybe, just maybe an injector issue.
Other things to think of might be a faulty starter motor, or faulty crank position sensors. Another member recently had erratic starting behaviour and it turned out the be the crank sensor, but they weren't having stalling problems as far as I know, which leads me to believe it's a fuel supply issue.

My initial thought was fuel pump, as it was turning over fine but just didn't want to go, but the fact that it did get going once i'd pushed it up the street, and that it did stall again, but started straight away made me think it might be something to do with electronics and heat? I noted a couple of others having issues with the crank position sensor on other forums. might be a good starting point. anyone know of any decent Disco mechanics in Brisbane that could use some diagnostics on it to look for a code?

An error with crank position sensor may not throw a fault code and may not cause stalling.
I'd say that running a search for any codes would be your best starting point and working from there.

stick a nanocom on it and read the fault codes,,

    Do the bags NOW!

you DO NOT want to replace a compressor---

On a D2 the camshaft position sensor can fail and cause no start as thevECU doesn't know which cylinder it is supposed to fire.
Also the crank sensor could be faulty.
As said best to put on a code reader.

    Thanks for all the info.
Is there anyone here local to Brisbane that has a nanocom to suit the v8 D2? I'd gladly pay for your time and effort to try and read some codes.

I understand that the Nanocom does not work with the V8.
You may need Hawkeye or whatever it's called.
