Hello,
Looking to buy a 2004 TD5 Disco 2 and want one without ACE. How can I tell if it has ACE or not. Is it true that discos with ACE will have 2 caps on the power steering reservoir, and non ACE will have only 1?
I am looking online so getting under the car is not possible.
thanks.

Thanks for that.
Scrubber
Interesting address. When I hear the word scrubber I think of two things. A gadget used to clean air (in tunneling) or the name given to some girls which show up to B&S's. (familiar with both)
Anyhow not sure you'll find a 2004 disco without ACE unless someone has already made the modification. Also if you do buy one with ace I couldn't imagine it would be that hard to remove or stop it from working but more importantly why? Some understanding for serious off-roading but on roads definitely worth having.
Regards
Andrew
Most 04 models I have seen dont have ACE. Unless it is an HSE or SE model. Some were optioned with ACE (S or base models) but these are rare given the cost of the option (3 or 4 thousand I think, not sure)
ACE is fantastic and about the only "feature" on the Disco that doesnt require regular "checks"
Most people are hunting for one with ACE not without
Cheers
yep, happily trade my non ace D2 for an ACE D2
Well, the name scrubber is the term that many people use when describing wild cattle, in particular "scrub bulls". So without going too far into semantics, it is a shared username that i use across a number of hunting forums.
The reasons i do not want ACE (well...i think that i don't want ACE), are because i want to replace the rear air springs, and lift the car. Also, I am wanting as much articulation as possible.
Are there any disadvantages of having ACE?
I am no expert on this subject, and am open to correction here, but I understand that ACE allows greater articulation than non-ACE.
Also, ACE has nothing to do with SLS, but is a hydraulic ram system that adjusts the torsion bars (front and rear) to prevent the vehicle leaning over in a corner.
As it is has proven a very reliable system, and certainly improves on road performance, I can see no reason why anyone would want non-ACE if given the option.
However, if non-ACE is your wish, I understand you just need to replace the torsion bars with standard ones, remove the hydraulic lines, and programme something into the ECU to tell it it has no ACE option.
Having stated all this, ACE may interfere with some high spec lifts.
I repeat this my understanding only.
Cheers,
biggin

Thanks for all the information. When i have looked online at rear spring conversion kits they say that it is not suitable for ACE vehicles. Maybe ACE is not such a bad thing then. This is basically the main reason I didn't want ACE.
some suspension suppliers draw a distinction between ACE and non-ACE vehicles but it shouldn't make any difference - plenty on people have longer coils with ACE and ACE actually improves your articulation offroad. Also, because ACE counters body roll on road, it theoretically allows you to fit softer springs (and just whack in some airbags inside the coils at rear for when you have a load on)
