Traction control, can you make it selectable?

Hey guys this may have been touched upon before but i am intrested in making the traction control in my TD5 disco selectable via a switch without engaging the centre diff lock and then starting the car, i know it would be very technical and somthing i would have to enlist an auto sparky for but any idea's if it is even possible before i go wasting my time asking my local sparky to delve into the disco?

Not sure about our disco's but the traction control on a ford is selectable on the sports models (xr6-8) etc so it can be done

Maybe he can give you some more info on if it's switchable.

    WHY

If you have a D2a you can't do it, if you have the early D2 it can be done but you need to engage the centre diff, turn the ignition off then restart the car.

Mine is set up this way, but I don't turn the ignition off to disengage it, the TC is brilliant, why would you want to turn it off

I couldnt agree more mate - even in sand CDL with ETC is better than CDL and no ETC. I have towed heavy in sand and having the ETC is a boon. Unlike some systems it applies breaks but does not drop power output of the motor. If it dropped power output I would probably want to be able to kill it with a button but not otherwise.

    Cheers

Pull the ABS fuse. Or get your auto electrician to wire up a switch to that fuse.

Just be aware that insurance may refuse to pay out a claim if they discover this mod

He doesn't want to disable the ABS.

Just disabling the TC can't be done on either the D2a or early D2, the ABS and HDC are disabled as well, so it's all 3 or nothing, BECAUSE they are all part of one unit, the ABS modulator which is controlled by the BCU SLABS computer.
