D2 Td5 fuel capacity

A little of the subject but if you will allow......I ferried a helicopter (Old Bell475G) from Kalgoorlie to Caloundra many years ago. Pushed a headwind right across the Nullabor and watched the trucks streaking past me

About the only thing slower than me was the 2 Japanese cyclists laboriously making there way over the bight under pedal power!!

Thanks for the note about the additional fuel weight - I think I worded my question poorly as I knew I wouldn't have an additional 130kgs of fuel - but wanted to know how much more the extra fuel load plus the weight of the 2 tanks (I plan to get the 1 X 125l & 1 X 33l aux tank fitted) would be.

I still have stock suspension but plan to have most of the accessories fitted before matching an upgraded suspension package to suit. I also have a new set of BFG muddies on new rims that don't fit until I have the suspendion upgraded.

Sorry to hijack this thread - Hey Roger, I'm very interested in the long-ranger tank setup and have a few questions if you don't mind....

- Did you upgrade rear suspension to account for the additional 130kgs of fuel and the weight of the tanks (Any idea what the tanks weigh?)
I all ready had a 2" lift & installed a pair of Coil Rite air bags on the rear as I was setting up the D2 to do the Canning Stock Route with Ean
- Does your fuel gauge work accurately after installation?
It shows over full for the first 300 ks & then drops steadly to empty
- How much of the 130ltr can be used - eg, can you literally run them dry or is there fuel left that cannot be utilised?
I run the tank untill the light comes on & get around 110 to 120 litres in the tank
- Are the tanks fully baffled so the handling isn't affected by having full tanks?
there has been no effect on handling

I have also fitted an LRA 50 ltr sill tank as well giving me a total 180 litres of fuel

Sorry 'bout all the Q's - I've looked at the website and am keen to purchase however, you're the 1st I've known who has them fitted.

I have the 130 and 35 litre tanks on coil springs with Poly Air bags on the rear. The extra weight is only around the equivalent of one adult in the luggage compartment (or 3rd row seats if you have them) and then only when full. It is one of the best and most useful mods you can do to a D2.
I usually run mine to the low fuel light, just because there is no way of knowing what is actually left once the gauge hits empty, but at that point there is still around 45 litres in the two tanks.

Aftermarket tanks are great, mine does not have one in this car but my two previous ones did.

If you fill to the brim, the load sits right at the back where the original tank was but the aftermarket tank is much heavier, carries more fuel and sits slightly lower.
The leverage exaggerates the weight and does make a difference on springs, just measure the before and after ride height.
If you change springs to increas height you also have to match the shocks.

I had a long range tank(130L) and had a rear mounted jerry can holder, that was even worse in terms of weight distribution and even felt it through the steering as it got slightly lighter.
Just my experience.
