There are many many threads on this forum & probably others about the poor design & poor manufacture of V8 blocks causing slipped liners & cracks.
I was just wondering if there's ever been any legal action taken to recover costs of installing tophat liners etc?
It seems to me that the engines are not fit for their intended purpose.
its just cheaper to put a ls1 in then go a massive world car company for a fault from over 10yrs ago![]()
and talking about it on a site like this wouldn't in anyway help the cause.
as a few have already found out...

In Australia maybe not but in the USA most likely.
Have a look at this link Blogger takes on Land Rover, aggressively - BusinessWeek. Might only infuriate you more though.
Also maybe start using "Without Prejudice" before remarks of legal action, you have obviously woke a few with this. There are also legal eagles amongst us so they could provide some more info.
All hypothetical.

You are talking big big dollars mate. In the end it is cheaper to just re-build.
Cheers
PS. I dont know why talking about the possibility about taking action on a forum does not help the 'cause'...its not as though LR are replacing these engines are they?
I don't intend to start legal action & I know it's a fault that's been going on for a long time.... I was just wondering that's all![]()
Mate - to give you an idea of costs versus benefit one days work for a solicitor and barrister will pay for your re-build.
Cheers
PS. If you win you only usually recover a proportion of your actual costs from the Defendant, and if you lose, you are usually paying their costs. Given the engineering evidence and disclosure of large amounts of material most likley, you are talking big costs.
A big big can of worms, but I guess if one succeeds, there will be a flood of cases. I know a bloke that considered similar action against GMH, apparently there was a fault with the diff location on the VL, if you lowered it to have the wheel arch sitting lower than the top of the tyre, one side will fit inside, the other won't, the diff for some reason or another, was off centre.
For what it's worth, he decided against it on advise from a solicitor
