If they paid out enough, you could always buy it back and repair it (at less cost), and pocket the change.![]()
Hey all,
just a heads up for those that like buying written off cars at the auctions.
Our 2001 Disco 2 TD5 is headed out for insurance auction - Water in the cab / ecu / transmission controller etc etc. Air box took some water but not very much.
points of interest for auction fiends:
- transfer case has CDL
- Rhino alloy 2/3 length roof rack with HD bars.
- no body damage aside from water and the usual wear and tear
- 7 seater.
It'll be auctioned through AAMI's usual mob. Call the Fairfield (brisbane) assessment center for their name. They told me... but I forgot. I was a bit shocked they wrote it off to be honest.

That did cross my mind..![]()
No surprise here really, mine was written off for water too. The assessor called me whilst on his way to look at the car, asked me how much water had entered the car, I told him and he just said he's be writing it off.... just like that. He didn't even look at the quote for repairs apparently.
