isnt 3 bongs when offroad height is lowered?

SLS is required for that, isn't it?

I get three chimes occasionally on start up and the good book indicates it is the ABS self check and nothing to worry about, however, I've not had it on the go.

Yeah, that's the worry.

Everything tests ok on startup, but even after driving for 50 km or so it still bongs on intermittently.

Sounds like the 3 amigos. Do the lights work on engine startup? i.e. at the lamp check look for the ABS-TC-HDC lights... (I suppose the tests OK at ignition covers this question.)

Yep

Just a thought from left-field. It's not the door ajar warning, by any chance?

If there is a sus door switch, it might be registering as the door been open.
