    Question drivers side window HELP

Just checked through the good oil--nothing like mine--. Window dropped putting it down yesterday-removed the internal covers -the half moon toothed thingame is sitting in the bottom of the door. Well I removed the mechanism saw where the spot welds had let go, so I drilled out the weld marks and rivetted it back together, this morning with a fresh start put it all back together window would only go half way up??? So removed the b----y thing moved the toothed to the extent it would go and tested the same -- it just came off the motor altogether. Well I now put it back in after reengaging the motor tried it out prior to connecting glass ---bend the bloody thing don't I --- time to talk to the experts WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG?????

its possible that theres something jamming the track which puts too much load on the mechanism and causes it to break, as you go though and repair it and upgrade it the next weakest link breaks.

you might find that depending on your repair technique the repairs have caused internal fouling of the mechanism.

    Buy a New Window Regulator

    Greg

My window regulator busted some time back so I bought a brand new one and replaced it. ($50 or so & easy job). Some on the forum have completed some home job weld up/Mcgyvering work but not worth the hassle in my opinion.

There shouldn't be a issue with the wind up/down teeth on the regulator. Could be jam some where as BK suggests.

    Talking window

Well I've beaten the gremlin---when I refitted the toothed half moon I fitted it on the wrong side of the motor. After a beer or two it all became plain so I removed the thing past the motor, replaced a wheel in the slide put it all back together IT WORKED-- thats Saturday---

I'm with Andrew D, I replaced mine a while back, had had the repair on the spot welds (done with a MIG) quite a while back but it doesn't address the wear on the slide.

Love to know where Andrew got his brand newie for $50 though! mine cost me $180! I still don't reckon that's not bad considering they last about 10 years before they give any problem, and the drivers side gets a fair workout in my case at least. Rough roads etc are bound to take their toll eventually.

    Wardy

Bought it from the UK Britcar (UK) Ltd. Actually $25 pounds and about $40 Aussie. I also bought a pile of other gear (door latch, spare key & misc trim clips) so postage was justified.

Also did the ring around in OZ but prices started at $99 non genuine to $160 genuine.

The one I ordered from the UK is also non-genuine but identical in every way (folds, bend, rollers, only thing missing is Land Rover is not embossed on it).

I bought a new one a while back (a couple of years now) for about $90 in Perth. Haven't fitted it yet though, because while I was waiting for delivery, I "Mcgyvered" the old one with the Mig welder and it hasn't missed a beat since.

Nothing at all wrong with having a go at fixing it yourself if you've got the gear and know what you're doing. They're a pretty simple mechanism.
    Cheers .........
