Just my observations
Well after going off road with friends, i've observed many petrol cars having issues because of water getting into the spark plug leads, or water simply being enough to short out spark related things. Basically every river crossing, a patrol and a pajero would be misfiring afterwards and would have to pull over and play around with WD40 etc for some time.
Meanwhile the diesel powered cars seem to have no trouble comparatively.
There is also the issue of range for the petrol powered. However I have no problem with having LPG duel fuel if its done properly so that would help a lot.
