They also said the cat seemed to be down on power
A mate has just broken down in Casino NSW.
Rang me for advice, so I'm asking for help from others experience....
It is a 99 TD5, manual trans. About 240,000km
Started with a rattle like "something caught in a bicycle spoke" at high speed, then developed an engine speed related vibration that starts about 2000rpm and gets worse. A clunking noise can be heard on either accel or decel. They cannot feel any unusual movement in uni joints ( I know they're not engine speed related but checked anyway)
Clutch friction point seems to have lowered. Clutch doesn't slip even when load tested, gear selection normal, vibration doesn't appear to occur in low range.... engine mounts look ok.
I suspect a dual mass failure perhaps?
Any other similar experience's or thoughts?
They are currently waiting for the NRMA....
Any recommended repairers in the Casino area?
Thanks for your help!

Noises could well be the flywheel, but caused by shaking of one cylinder misfiring. Likely oil-in-injector-loom problems?
Grew up in casino. See Tony at the shell service station in the main st. He is a good mechanic. Not a specialist lr mech though. There used to be a lr dealer / workshop in town and he might know someone that worked there. Goodluck
Also I just broke down recently and it started with harsh vibration and loss of pwr. I thought it was oil in ecu. Ended up being fuel pump. Expensive part but easy fix.
Thanks guys, Nrma has just been - ur both on the right track, apparently it has a misfire...
Hopefully 12 hours on Paulie's on the move--
