Thread: D2 V8 Battery options?

Two smaller batteries wil be fine, as long as they have the appropriate amount of CCA's to run the car. (cold cranking amps)
You might find two smaller, but really good batteries, to be much more expensive than one good replacement.

How long did you have your old battery?

Old battery came with car (bought Sept '10), havent looked to see if it has a date on it.

If it doesnt hold a charge for more than a week it probably is on its last legs.

If I can fit 2 batteries in the same area with a new tray, one can be a starting battery and the other one for accessories without having to mount a battery in the back, I want to keep the 7 seats functional.

I have the SLS compressor box available as well, the rear is now springs, but if they are both in the engine bay it is far easier for cabling etc.

No need to mount a spare battery in the boot or in place of the compressor box. There is space for two full sized batteries in the engine bay.

Kits are available to place the seconadry battery in place of where the jack currently sits. They are nice and neat too. There is also a thread on here somewhere about a bracket to place a secondary battery between the firewall and the PS/ACE reservoirs.

As mentioned before, two small batteries that fit within the space provided for the current one battery, with enough CCA's to turn over the engine might be very costly. Having siad that, you might be preapared to pay the extra for peace of mind.

Chances are that your current (dying) battery has been in the car for many, many years and a brand new one will keep you going for many more years to come.

If you are concerned though, a backup battery for starting is a good idea. If that was me, I'd be looking to set it up so that if the main battery dies, you can flick a switch in the cabin or under the bonnet over to the secondary.

I guess it's best to try and find out how old your current battery is and determine whether a new single battery will provide you with enough service for the cost.

Please do check your battery current draw when switched off,
various circuits can sometimes draw enough current to flatten the best battery. Plenty of fixes/links on the site about this problem, may save you another battery.

I have seen some photos with the second battery near the firewall on pass side, but they were diesels. There is room there in my V8 but something that looks like a siren or horn is mounted there.

Looks like I will need to visit local battery shop and maybe TJM/ARB for a tray.

battery has 09 08 on it. so is between 2 and 3 years old. dont have multimeter but a visit to Aldi should fix that.

went out after writing ps and it started up, maybe the threat of being jump started by a Holden broke it out of its funk

it didn't threaten my car today when my wifes commodore had to jump start the Disco this morning!
I ended up buying a Delcor for mine today. See my thread starting battery for TD5.
