    Front wheel bearings

    Hi all

I am having a challenge finding the thread on how to rebuild the front hubs on the D2. Can anyone else find it?

    Cheers

    AFAIK they are not rebuilt.
The hubs are sold (quite reasonable $$) as a complete unit.

As Pedro said, no rebuild. Just unbolt and replace. Or do you mean the thread on how to do this?

    cheers

Out of interest, has anyone come up with a real REASON why they CAN'T be rebuilt? Apart from the fact that they are not SUPPOSED to be rebuilt as far as LR are concerned, is it actually completely impossible to get the bearings out of the hub and install new ones? Reminds me of the "LR fix" of replacing the entire serpentine belt tensioner for nearly $200 when the bearing in the pulley goes; I separated the pulley and replaced the $6.00 bearing, going strong 5 years later.

Do they use the same bearing as the P38A hubs?

See P38A hub rebuild here: Hub and Wheel Bearing Replacement (Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38)

    as for the roller--
sometimes its not the bearing but the roller itself that wears away,,
but still heaps cheaper from non-dealer places.

I replaced a rear hub and thought the same so I had a crack at getting the bearing out. No chance! That being said, someone with a commercial oven and the right tools might get it, but not me.

Commercial oven explanation - heat hub, cool bearing with freon? then extract? Just guessing as not game enough to try.

I had a hard enough time undoing the hub axle nut (700+Nm). Did end up with a nice 3/4" impact set and rattle gun
