Cruise control kick down

Hi all was just after some opinions or if anyone experiences similar issues,I've owned my 99 td5 auto for about 2 years now and never had this problem before, when cruising up hills mooney mooney on f3 for instance, with cruise control on,it will suddenly kickdown and be revving around 4500 trying to keep up the speed.so I always back off,i would only ever used to hear the turbo work a little harder but no auto changes would ever occur.I recently put on some good year wrangler 245 16 75 and have a small roof cage over the back axel weighing around 20 kg?not sure if these things could account.thanks for reading!

The 245's will increase the gearing about 15%, making it harder for the vehicle to maintain the same speeds on hills without extra throttle input, the cruise control is just flooring it to try and maintain the same speed.

Try switching it off and see how much input you need as the driver to hold speed and you'll see what I mean.

    Roofrack won't be helping either.

Yeh that definitely makes sense I had a feeling it might be something like that.thanks for reply.would you say the tyres affecting the gearing, would affect off road performance mainly sand,to a noticeable degree?
