    general query

Hi, I have recently purchased an 02 Discovery TD5 auto which I just love, but occassionally the sports mode/manual mode lights come on the dash and I lose significant power. There's no rhyme nor reason to it & it happens in totally different scenarios, ie not cold/hot, powering up etc. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks

Am not a Discovery expert, but have heard that if the battery is on the way out and the voltage dips below a certain level, it will go into limp home mode, with the lights flashing as you have described.

Any idea if the battery is up to scratch?

X 2 re. battery. Another cause of this..and I kid you not...is when reversing in an auto, and you slip it into drive without coming to a complete stop, it logs a fault and eventually the S & M lights come on.

battery or transmision selector switch, the latter fails due to water from the AC drain tubes dripping onto the switch and causing corrosion.
search for AC drain modification in the good oil (thread by me)

X2 as this happened to me. The actual cause is a faulty inhibitor whitch which resides on the passenger side of the auto box. A few hundred bucks will get a second hand one, a bit of time with someone who knows what they're at to fit it and you're away.

BTW..... That "loss of power" is commonly called 'limp home mode', the auto goes into 3rd gear and stays there. DON'T drive any further than you have to in this mode or damage ($$$$$$) to the auto will occur!

    general query

Happened to me recently, battery issue, new one fixed it,the computer goes haywire if the voltage is under spec.

Lets hope this is it and not the inhibitor switch.

    Trev.
