    Transfer Case oil Leak - Which Gasket

    I've had a look at Microcat but cannot conclusively identify the likely culprit for this... I'm putting in an order for parts and would appreciate any advice as to what might be the leak. It drops 3-4 drops on the ground at every park. When I bought the Disco, I did the oils and found the transfer case down to about 1.7 litres (from 2.5 IIRC) so it needs fixing...

    I've just repaired (hopefully - it's not back in the car yet) a similar leak on mine.
    I suspected the intermediate shaft o-rings, but when I separated the transfer case from the gearbox it seemed that most of the oil was leaking from the front transfer case seal. The part number for the seal is ICV100000.
    (I replaced the intermediate shaft o-rings anyway)

    And another question - Does anyone know what the "Engine Crank Balancer Seal" is otherwise known as?

    I note on my inspection report that it's leaking a bit of oil and I am (trying to) ordering another.

    I think if I had to pull my Trans box out I'd just be doing all the seals, I purchased a kit a few months back & I'm sure it was less than $50 on eBay containing all gaskets & O rings needed to do the job. Thankfully for me it was just an Ill fitting filler plug that was leaking.

    I have the gearbox and transfer case out to put a new clutch in so it was a minor part of a much bigger job.
    Once the transfer case is out, it's only takes about 1/2 an hour to do the seal and intermediate shaft o-rings.

    The intermediate shaft Orings will be leaking. The real problem is the hole in the alloy case actually goes oval slightly, which is why they start to leak. So you can put new orings in them and the will leak again after a while. You can get exchange housings which are machined on the front and have steel bush fitted this is a more permanat fix as the the steel bush holds it's shape. Most of them leak here just depends how much. As long it doesn't run out of oil between services, I'd leave it leak. My old D1 leaks but it hardly ever needs any oil. I know MR tell their customer if it uses a 1l every 10kkm best to do the job.
