AMV Electric CDL Actuator or Ashcroft Factory CDL

Just on some opinions on using the AMV Electronic CDL Actuator compared to the Ashcroft Factory CDL kit.

I am thinking the AMV kit could be quicker to engage etc. as you just press a switch on the dash but it is an extra electronic.

I am building the D2 as an all round tourer, so would like something easy too use.

Get the Ashcroft CDL actuator, the AMV electric won't last very long, mine lasted 12mths

It started playing up about 6mths after we go it

Ask AMV if they have a second hand factory actuator, we bought our factory actuator off AMV for $375, they do have them from time to time, have a look on their web site to see if they have wrecked a D2a.

I vote for the AMV CDL

Had one fitted by them about a year ago. I did have an initial issue in that one of the connections was not fitted correctly. Took it back next day and all ok.

Whichever you chose, cut the red wire to the SLABS ECU behind the glove box. If not sure, ask

I've owned two of the AMV's and both have died and always at the worst time when you need it the most. (Let me tell you it's a right pain trying to unlock it after a drive manually lying on your back in the mud burning your arm on the g/box trying to get up there to do it.). After the second time it happened i thought thats it, going to get a manual one from a D2a. Wish i had done it years ago.

    Cheers

Go the ashcroft or secondhand CDL from most reports the electrical version does not last. I just installed my ashcroft CDL and am wrapped with it, although I reckon a good homemade job would be more affordable. Activation with the lever is quick and takes no effort, it requires more force to engage low range than CDL.

AMV is just a thing to go wrong just when you need mechanical help the most. Keep it all mechanical and simple. I use a nice simple push pull cable and t handle on the transmission tunnel (its not in the way) and pull it half an inch or so out and its engaged (with light of course) and back in the same distance and its off...really cant fail and very light to use.

    Cheers

Inside the unit where it's gearing is. When activated the motor turns a worm gear which turns a large gear that turns the cdl, that large gear has a rubber center which splits, then there is no more drive and it just spins
