My D2a originally took its air from the void between the outer and inner guards, sucking it from the wheel arch area. I used to have huge issues with dust swamping the air filter and a continual film of dust on the MAF.
I fixed it by making an inlet tube inside the guard void to force air to the taken from behind the headlight (forward of the engine bay area). I have had no clogged air-filter issues since. I just need to be extra careful if I go near any water crossings.
Chris
i have a snorkel, but i also do a lot of country dirt road travelling, so dust is to be expected.
Another update on my saga.
All four by four have had my car now for 6 working days now and are none the wiser about the cause of my fuel dilution. They said that there are no obvious cracks in the cylinder head around the injectors. Also they said the injector washers/o rings are ok, I can confirm this because I have seen the injector spaces and the injectors. As a last ditched effort to diagnose the source of the fuel they are going to put the injectors back in and pressurise the rail and injectors and look for leaks. If this fails the way I see it I have 2 options. One is to renew all 5 injectors at a significant cost and then see if that solves the problem. Two, renew the head and all 5 injectors and be done with it. A second mortgage on the house required. If they cant find a leaky injector, I think i'll get them to put it all back together and I'll re-evaluate the situation and my finances. Can not complain about the service or compassion that the all four by four staff have provided though.
What do you fella's think.
Regards
Robbo
Accepting the "Compassion" being shown by your mechanics, they don't seem to have the LR knowledge required to fix your problem. Pretty sure someone on here will be able to point you in the direction of a true LR guy for an opinion BEFORE you start shelling out the big bucks.
Similar here, I just had oil sample come back after 9400km on the oil.
High Fuel (5%) and high Silicon (100) but no wear readings as it probably is the sealant used on engine as they say it takes a couple of oil changes to clear it out. Also low viscosity due to fuel (11.2).
The head has just been reconditioned and new head gasket. I asked about injector washes and o rings? I was assured they were replaced as they are in the head gasket kit used to assemble the engine. So not leaking in the head area.
Injector reading on the nanocom seem normal.
I do note both the service manual (5000km) and testing company say high fuel readings come from city driving and the Disco has done this mostly this service.
Any ideas from the knowledgable ones on here? Is this fairly normal seeing Land Rover says 5000 km for city driving and I've done 10,000 km.
5% fuel dilution is too high, but generally you'd see higher than normal wear metals too.
I'd get another test to monitor in another 5-10,000km.
Tests aren't always accurate either.
Out of curiosity, have you considered having the oil tested before you use it? Imagine if you are chasing a solution for a 5% reading but before the oil was even put into the engine it had a reading of 3% for argument sake? Just a thought.
