D2 Rear Detroit with standard axles

I have recently bought a Detroit Locker for the back of my D2. I have already installed a Truetrac in the front with no problems.

The trouble is, I really can't be bothered changing to, or buying, HD axles.

Is it okay to run standard axles with this set up, or is it a definite no-no?

    Cheers,
    biggin

Give it a go, how big are the tires? Shamo on here ran standard axles with an airlocker for a while on 33's and they did ok, until one inevitably popped. Comes down to how and what you drive i guess. I know my HTE axles have copped hell and not let go, $700 well spent IMHO

lol - then I am curious how you can be bothered changing to, or buying a locker???

With OEM cheese sticks it is not a matter of if you will snap them but when.

It took me a full day to do the front TT. So I'm guessing it will be longer to install detroit AND the axles in one hit.
Also, I wanted to do it this weekend so waiting 2 more weeks for parts will bugger that idea.

    Cheers,

You need to remove the axles to fit the locker - so no extra labour to refit different axles.

Hytuff (and maybe also Jacmac?) would likely have some axles on the shelf.

When one of the axles does go pop you'll find the centre wont be too happy about it (it will cost you more)

I have a Kaiser auto locker in the rear and have not had any shaft failure. I wheel my disco hard as well.

I know this is a possibility, but how likely is it to happen.
I haven't found anyone on this site complain of failed axles.
Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.
Obviously I don't want to leave the axles standard, if it is a forgone conclusion.
I want to install the locker this weekend, which is why I don't want to buy new axles.
    Thanks for the feedback.

With the locker in it's very likely.

I know 2 forum members off the top of my head.... There are more!

Depends how you drive, the lines you choose etc... And what you consider normal driving may be very different to another persons normal.

But it's highly likely to break once locked.
