    Question In Car Entertainment (ICE) - modules behind the headunit

    I have upgraded my headunit as I'm wanting full iPod/iPhone control on a nice easy to use interface. As such I selected a Clarion (VRX486VD) unit due to a previous Clarion model I had being very good for such.

    Today I fitted it, and have two issues, one there seems to be some static white noise in the background emiting from the speakers, and two there are so many bloody cables and boxes behind the headunit that it's pretty tight squeeze to get her in!

    Anyone know if any of these modules are still required or if I can take them out of the wiring now that the factory headunit is long gone! I don't actually know what these modules do, as there was already a replacement Kenwood headunit in the vehicle when I purchased it.

    The vehicle in question is a 2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE TD5 - it has the High Level Spec ICE which includes the rear passenger DVD screen and DVD player under the front passenger seat (with wireless headphones), the external power speaker amplifier under the front passenger seat, it used to have a CD stacker charger under the front drivers seat, and has audio controls and 3.5mm headphone jacks for the rear passengers.

    I have just been doing some Googling, and it seems that the second module (the smaller one - InCarTek brand) was added in by the previous owner to enable the steering wheel controls to work with an aftermarket headunit (they didn't though).

    As for the first unit, still unsure about that one.

    I think the OEM-1 unit converts the amplified speaker lines from the new aftermarket headunits inbuilt amplifier to a signal that the factory external amplified (fitted under the front passenger seat) can accept.

    isnt the PAC just another generic steering wheel/head unit interface?
