    FOOTREST - 2004 D2A

Anyone got any ideas (apart from throwing it into the bin) on strengthening the **** weak foot rest that hangs from under the centre console? I have cut and angled some tubing and put it between the base plate & the plastic foot rest to restore some of the angle required, this worked sort of for a while but it is still not enough. I intend fixing some steel angle iron to the outside of the bend to add strength and retuning it to 90 degrees instead of the 120 degrees it's currently at. How hard is it to get out from under the console, I have not had a really good look for fear of breaking something?
    Anyone...?

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Yeah mate you can't put too much pressure on it can you?. Although I have not found it too much of an issue.

    Pedro,

I guess I use it as I would in the car (it's bolted to the floor so does not give at all), it keeps the left foot out of the way, also to help shift the bum better into the seat etc... when getting in. Agree it's just a foot rest but it should be able to take you using it to shift your weight or to take the strain on hill descents in order to keep the left foot from interfering.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    I agree Peter,
It seems once bent, it loses all its strength and rigidity.

I bolted a block of aluminium under mine as I had the same problem. I have also made mine wider with a bit of aluminium chequer plate, I used to find that my shoe kept catching the heater duct (which when I was using it as a daily driver was wrecking my shoes).
I'll do a pic of the extension but don't think I'll be able to get a pic of the block underneath without removing it.
Simple solution and pretty self explanatory.

hmm,, you should all be hanging off your belts only in serious downhill stuff,,

and the left foot should be on the brake anyway(auto or manual)

    mmm, same problem here.
Just used to 'solid' ones and using it to move my lump of a body around.
Not just for downhills - also VERY handy for A.C.E equipped vehicles in corners....

I re-bent mine and it lasted till the mechanic got in I think.
Also filed and sanded the plastic cover back as far as I could go before exposing wiring for damage, so I now can actually fit some of my shoes in there.
    FORGET about steel caps!

Sometimes I wish I was 5 foot tall and 60 kgs

    Look forward to the pics,

    regards
    Darian
