    Oil level question in TD5

    Hi,

Got the TD5 serviced last wednesday and checked the oil level yesterday, it was 20mm above the full mark. Is this an issue? Should I drain some oil out to get it to the full mark or will it be OK where it is? I check it weekly so I will notice it it moves.

PS. Is $300 for parts expensive? (1x fuel filter, 2x oil filter, 1x air filter and Castrol Edge 5W40 oil)

    Cheers,
    Nova

They may have overfilled it at service, but you shouldn't be going anywhere until you know for sure that it's not diesel in the oil. You risk it running on and blowing the motor.

If the $300 was for just those parts it does seem expensive. However if they charged $40 per filter and $100 for the oil theres $260. I service my own vehicle and it costs about
    $70 for Penrite Oil
$50 for all the filters (imported from England)

P.S. i would be calling the mechanic and let him take the responsibility of whether you should drive it or not. You obviously paid good money for the service

    Regards

Had mine overfilled about that much during a service, never had a problem. It is unlikely you have fuel in the oil,as it has just been serviced, but i would moniter the level.

I keep a good eye on the oil level, with regular checks,as fuel in the oil can destroy an engine,as said by others.

It was $330 at all4x4 for a minor service, thats what I was charged 2x until I worked out how to do them myself for half the cost with them supplying the Oil and filters.

$75 for the filter pack, $80 for a 10ltr of oil

You will prob find that the mechanic slightly overfilled it. I let mine sit for about half hour before I check my level. It's fairly easy to overfill a td5.
I'm sure if you call the mechanic he will drain a couple hundred mills out for you. Just make sure the car sits for at least 15 mins before it's drained so you can see the correct level.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I am aware of the problems with diesel in the oil and the engine running on, but I assumed it was overfilled. It is hard to take the car back to the mech, it is a two hour trip each way. I will drain some oil out myself and keep a real close eye on the level.

Previous to the service it was bang on the full mark and never budged. Although I would assume if an injector seal goes it can add a fair but of fuel to the sump relatively quickly. Did about 400km on the weekend, will check it again today and see if it has shifted (I will start worrying if it has gone up furhter).

    Cheers,

Apparently if you can't smell diesel in the oil, it is okay
