Question Auto cooler pipe/hose swage leaks.

Last year I had one of these hoses blow off on one of our D2's leading to a tow to a repairer. Now on our other D2 after a radiator flush, coolant change and new hose went on today. I've noticed that the auto cooler hose at the swage to the pipe is actually not tight and is able to be rotated on the pipe and moved in and out a few mm. No real sign of a leak yet ,but this is the same hose that blew off the other car.
How many other owners have this loose fitting, and is there an upgraded pipe setup available or just replace with new original?

Learnt this one the hard way myself, they are a push on, pull off fitting like a garden hose, there should be a little collar that needs to be held forward so that the little teeth or fins inside the female end can be disengaged from the lip/ridge they hand on to on the male end of the connection coming off your cooler. Being a hydraulic system I believe all are like this now days.

Only fix is to take out your cooler, cut off the stock "click on" fitting, and weld on some AN fittings, and have a custom hose(s) made to suit.

Hey thanks, but I was actually talking about the join at the hose and the steel pipe blowing off as per discovery2.co.uk website. This is supposed to be a permanent fitting.

I have heard the quick connect at the cooler can give dramas too,, though I'm yet to experience that.

I'd say it's time for new hoses my friend, I think where the flexible hose joins the set steel pipework is a crimped, permanent fitting. My hoses blew off at the cooler itself so opposite end to yours. I'm unsure if there's any way to rejoin those crimped ends?

Yes, I changed the high pressure pipe only, both ends of the hose to pipe crimps were loose, not very good. The other pipe is a low pressure from the cooler to the auto box and is fine so it staying put.
I'm going to take the old pipe to a hose fixer maybe enzed, and see if they can put a new hose on the existing pipe, but only if it cost less than $100.

Sounds like a plan, let me know how you go as I reckon it'll be something I'll have to consider soon enough

Had it happen to me a few months ago. Swage connection at the cooler blew apart without warning. Mobs of white smoke which I though was from the exhaust pipe, but turns out was the trans fluid burning on the exhaust. JUST managed to limp home, then a tow to the shop. The repairer re-swaged the fitting, using (I think) a new flexible pipe. Was very lucky no transmission damage. Been fine since.

Had a 3 year "warranty" from where I bought it. "Sorry sir, your warranty doesn't cover this". Bugger......But that's another story.......

Did well to get home, mine went on me at 100clicks on the freeway & I lost drive almost instantly without trans fluid being in the box. Why wouldn't warranty cover that?
