Mystery hoses - is this normal

    Hello everyone,

While looking under the bonnet of my 2004 TD5 I noticed that there are two little pipes, which don't appear to be connected to anything. They seem to originate from the gearbox tunnel somewhere and then come out and "hook around" one of the heater pipes.

Should they be connected to anything?

There are a couple of images below, but the clarity is not the best.

    Thanks for your help.

They look like breather pipes to me.

I extended/changed them for longer ones and put a filter on the end. Just in case I end up in deep water and water gets sucked into diffs.

The rear diff pipes should be in top of rear wheel arch.

Thanks for that. I had a suspicion that they could have been breathers. I will be changing their location for sure.

In my RRC they are high up on the firwall behind the engine.
Someone has been working on the engine /gearbox and forgotten about them and not replaced them where they should be..
