pre cleaner on snorkel
hi all,
have just fitted a safari snorkel and had previously purchased a pre cleaner but the measurements are not standard. the safari snorkel ram is larger 75mm whereas the pre cleaner is smaller and wont fit the snorkel. prefer to fit the smaller 64mm pre cleaner. what do others do in fitting a pre cleaner. probably purchased a smaller pre cleaner. should i make up a adaptor from pvc piping. cheers

I use an oiled filter from unifilter that fits over the ram head and the standard land rover air filter in the air box.

use an adaptor, rubber hose or adhesive loaded heat shrink

I'd suggest that you use a piece of pvc pipe that fits onto you air intake instead of glueing your cyclone head permanantly to your intake.

Hey, reading this I realised my Safari snorkel doesn't have a pre filter. Are they essential?

A pre cleaner helps enormously to keep the main filter clean.
I use Unifilter socks which fit inside the snorkel top.
In very dusty conditions I clean them every day. They come in packs of 3 so you switch them when necessary. I did the Plenty, Tanami, GRR, Kalumburu, Pilbara, and back to Sydney on the same main filter.
A diesel is suited to a cyclone whereas a petrol IMHO is not suited . I bought a "Donaldson Topspin" but I reckon with the petrol it never spun fast enough to throw the dirt out when on light throttle..
