I recently upgraded my 2001 D2 TD5 to a fantastic '04 Classic with a 2" lift, upgraded suspension, side bars, ARB winch bar, snorkel and other useful mods. I can honestly say it's a great car with low Km's and a real improvement over my previous car which I loved and had upgraded over time. I've owned both D1 and D2 since 1994 so it's nice to finally own the last of the line. Mine is a 5 seater auto without ACE but with the upgraded suspension it doesn't matter, the only thing missing is decent tyres which will be fitted soon.

The reason I'm telling you this is simple, the very late model cars have most of if not all of the known D2 issues sorted and they are very accomplished vehicles. I recently took my car on a Vic High Country trip and it was very impressive even after the rain and recent bad weather had made the tracks very difficult. Even though I had the CDL in reserve I didn't need it as the traction control was enough even without decent tyres?

When you look at the cost of a D3 thesedays it makes these vehicles even more desirable and they make a lot of sense, so if anyone is out there wondering whether or not to take the plunge....go for it you will not regret it
