Not wishing to sound demeaning...you have twisted the locking release grip on the rear of the base?

It might be like my rear seat, the mechanism is broken so when you twist the rear grab bar it won't unlock the seat base, I found I can use a key and just lever open the seat catch near floor which has a spring attached to it and the seat base releases. I'll go and take a photo of what I mean.

Just took some photos, my faulty seat is on the passenger side. I just use key as shown in second photo and lever black plastic part with spring attached back towards rear of car and seat base will pop up. This does not take much pressure to release but take care with key.

Maybe try pushing down on seat as you try to lever catch back, it might be locked with some pressure.

I'm happy to see you got it sorted, I've been living with mine broken for about 4 years now, one day I might fix it although my kids don't really use the rear seats anymore.
    Cheers Matt
