D2 window failure: fault located
Hey all,
Had my D2's driver side window fail halfway over Cunningham's Gap on the way back from our Easter camping. Damn. Long trip home with 100km/h wind in your ear. Luckily the rain gods took pity on us.
I pulled it all apart yesterday, and although I haven't yet fixed it, thought I'd post the cause of the failure for future readers.
Problem: window went down fine. Wouldn't wind up. Was inside door so couldn't pull up manually. Motor was heard to be working as normal. No other unusual sounds or symptoms.
Fault: failed plastic gear in the window motor's gear box. See black area in center in the photo below. Window regulator was in perfect condition.

Temporary solution (till I find a decently priced motor/gearbox):

I just wired the Regulator radius gear to the door body to keep it from slipping, AND disconnected the switch in the console to be safe.
Cheers
