Strongest Option for DII diffs, axles and cv's

I am after some recomendations on the strongest setup for a DII regarding diffs, axles and cv's.

I have decided to go Ashcroft air lockers in the centres and will be re-gearing to suit 305/70/R16 on road and 35's for play tyres.

I have noticed on their site they talk about diff pegging etc. but I have no idea what this means.

I am building up strengthened housings with D44 diff covers and if they still fit QT diff guards / sliders.

I really only want to do this once, so I don't mind spending the money where required.

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    If I were you:

    Ashcroft Lockers
Ashcroft's new ring and pinion gears (wouldn't bother with pegging - which is a brass block whish sits against the back of the ring gear to stop it deforming)

(the ashcroft version is on top)

"sewercap" the diff pan and strengthen as necessary:

Cheap, strong, and then you don't need a diff guard. (a standard weight butt weld pipe cap is ~$50).

what sort of tracks you want to do, iv got a arb rear locker in a wolf diff, with standed axels allround, iv done prity much all the hardest tracks at cruser and never had a problem, im running MTR 33s with off setrims aswell, with a very chiped and boosted td5 so its got the power to move the rubber around,

id just get lockers and see how you go, with lockers and CDL, 99% of the time theres no need to full noise and jump it, 1st gear and smooth revs and most tracks are very driverbull,

I pretty much just want something I never have to think about again.

With the V8 auto and 33's or 35's I think the extra strength is needed.

Having said that the D2 as it is with no CDL or lockers and 31's goes a long way compared to some other non LR vehicles.

I did some moderate stuff at City View on the weekend but am a little put of until the new transfer goes in with CDL.

At cruiser I have only done the easier tracks like Claw Gorge etc. did not attempt Camp Road or Telecom Hill.

I reckon the D2 as it is could do them, I am just not keen with my limited experience at this stage.

The driveline is starting to make some funny noises probably due to excessive wheel spin and the ABS / Traction Control kicking in.

Just get the Ashcroft catalogue and your credit card and buy everything they sell! Thats what i did, with the exception of the air lockers that they didnt make at the time. I will however being using them if the ARB's give up. Next on the list is the underdrive

For the tires your wanting 4.11's are the obvious choice, or i think that they are 4.125 now? Supposed to be stronger again.

I will be pegging mine as the smallest they will see is a 35 before too long and its worth the extra insurance when 12hours away from home competing. Jump on the Ashcroft site they have a good write up on there about what it is how it works etc.

As for going a long way non LR vehicles cant dont be fooled... I am a diehard LR fan and love when the D2 wipes smiles off faces but any GQ/GU or 80/105 series driver should be able to follow it anywhere.

The day you saw us up at cruiser my D2 was running less lift with same size tires and walked up Camp Rd open so dont be afraid to get in there n give it a go! Experience comes by doing! Youve had the D2 as long as ive had mine im fairly sure so get stuck in!

I will check out their site for ideas.

And to your other question, a twin turbo V8 would be nice...

I get lots of ideas and put them into design...just need to build them now

If you really want to spend up and forget (not that Rover diffs are a forget job) Ashcroft were working on a Hi9 conversion, though I'm not sure how that is progressing. Realistically though, for what it is worth also look into Toyota diff center conversions and run Rover side gears on Airlockers so that the axle splines match and then Ashcroft axles/CV's. I think Ashcrofts CV's are by far the strongest for the D2. The Toy will be stronger than any Rover setup which is still Rover - they say you cant polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter I suppose. If you do a Toy setup you'd need to do solid pinion spacers etc. There are others on here and outerlimits who have done this.

If you are thinking very standard but strong then 4.14's from Ashcroft, Air or Ashcroft lockers, Ashcroft CV's and axles.
    Cheers
    Slunnie
