Undo from the top first, then underside. Jack one side first then other. You need to do one side before the other but I can't remember which sorry. But start to lift and see which will come first, that makes room for the other.
Many thanks again bee utey for the V8 starting tip. After turning on the ignition and weighting until the warning lights go out, then turning the ignition off, and doing this on/off sequence a few times, the V8 started faultlessly. LRT

any further comment LRT?
the pumps failed?

Hi Pedro, concerning the fuel pump issue, we have found that turning the ignition on and waiting until the SRS warning light extinguishes is enough to enable the car to start. Since the Discovery is used as a seven seater daily, I haven't been able to remove the rear lining and trim to fit a new pump, but I plan to do so.
However, we now have the P0600 and P01668 BCU serial link faults, which are proving difficult to diagnose. As far as the females in our family are concerned, this makes the DII very unreliable and a suitable trade-in vehicle! Perhaps Sully's wife encountered these serial link faults on a regular basis!

Haha, there were certainly many hours spent on maintaining our disco and many hours more required before I would have been happy enough to be confident that it wasn't going to leave her and bubs stranded.
That combined with the high fuel usage added up to saying goodbye to the disco.
It went on Friday. I was sad to see it go, but the new car is certainly very nice.
Here's hoping an enthusiast finds my disco and appreciates the groundwork I've made thus far.
Best of luck in remedying the faults on yours.
Many thanks Sully. I wish I were in a position to buy your Discovery II - it would be a mint collector item!
I will keep the forum informed about the P0600 and P1668 BCU faults http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...out-fault.html.
Hopefully, the problem will just be an earth fault as Rosscoe68 discovered with his D2 http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ng-lights.html.

The starting problem has not been rectified and the CKP sensor and the passenger compartment fuse box has removed and cleaned with no improvement.
The engine spins over but does not fire and there is no spark. After connecting the Hawkeye diagnostic tool and clearing the P0600 and P1668 faults, the engine sometimes starts. This starting problem mainly occurs on a wet or cold day, but increasingly the problem occurs after 10 minutes since the engine has been switched off.
However, the puzzling thing is that when following Bee Utey’s procedure by turning the ignition on and waiting for the SRS airbag warning light to extinguish, then turning the ignition off and repeating the process three times, the engine starts! This seems like the fuel pump is not operating, however, the injectors pulse in the live data on the Hawkeye diagnostic tool.
Can the injectors pulse if there is no fuel coming to them?
Where is it best to disconnect the fuel line to see if the fuel pump is working and pumping fuel to the injectors?
LRT
Behind the inlet manifold to the left and above of the coil pack there is a fuel rail test port schrader valve, difficult to see but feel around with your hand and you'll find it. The pressure is about 50psi, (I take it you don't have access to a fuel pressure gauge), IF you are getting fuel to the rail there should be an obvious release if you press the schrader valve in slightly. DO NOT do this over a hot engine, running or ignition switched on.
To test if the 1 way valve in the pump is at fault, switch on the ignition and crank the engine a few times, then immediately test the valve for fuel pressure. If none, then pump isn't working or supply to pump dodgy. If there IS fuel there, then repeat cranking and then leave for 5 minutes, then test for pressure. If none or just a dribble, then 1 way valve is at fault. Either way pump has a problem.

What about the crank angle sensor?
Had a similar issue in another car which wouldn't start when hot but was ok once cooled down, faulty CAS.
you dont need to cycle the ignition,,
the pump will run for 30 seconds,
if after 30 seconds you havent started the car, the pump will switch off.
Thats a cool trick with the schrader valve JC,,,
