Hi all,
Done a quick search but didi not come up with a definitve answer.
What is the standard R&P ratio in a manual 2001 TD5 Disco.
I currnetly have 265/75's on mine wiuth standard gering (whatever that is) and find it hard to get away at times especially when there is a incline involved with lots of revs and a bit of clutch which is not good.
i lso find the old girl really doey until the turbo kicks in around 1500 RPM and then she goes like a cut snake.
I relly want to upsize to 285's but wish to bring the gearing to standard or as close as possible for speedo and drivability.
Can you please let me know wht diff ratio' are required? I am presuming 4.1 4.11 or 4.12. Is this correct?

To expand on what Dave has written, all modern Landies (except Freelander) from the first RR up until the D2 and P38A have used 3.54:1 for both petrol and diesel models, i.e., Range Rover classic 1970-1994, P38A RR 1995-2002, Discovery 1 and 2, County, and Defender.

4:11s if going to 33s, especially if towing or carrying a lot of weight, this gearing will bring you back to standard gearing.
Just a bit of extra info to think about, if you do go to 4.11s, if going back to a smaller tyre (eg) 265/75s or smaller, you'll need to change the ring and pinion again back to standard 3.54, IMO, going from 32s to 33s your not gaining alot, all it will do is put more strain on CVs, the transfer case and shafts.

4.3's correct 35's but thats if you could get them. Most/almost all run 4.11's which are common and stronger.
With the D2, the speedo and other speed related parts of the car pick up the speed from the SLABS computer which calculates speed from the ABS sensors. So, changing diff ratios will not correct your speedo. What it will do however is disable the Cruise Control in the manual transmission varients. You can correct the SLABS speedo output using specifically the Truspeed speedo correction unit and it should work exiting the SLABS computer, but confirm this as I think for some D2 configurations it doesn't and has to correct the speedo unit only, but I'm not sure if thats a V8 manual thing. This will correct the speedo but to get the cruise control to work again you must correct the speedo to the diff ratio change, not the tyre change and it must be done where the signal exits the SLABS computer. With the autos you can correct to the tyre size. The Truspeed I think can be bought from 4X4Intellegence in Melbourne last time I looked.
