Mate, for the time and effort involved and only a moderate price difference I wouldnt think of going non genuine......

Hi there,
my short arm ACE bush RBX101740 has collapsed as well, I did not hear any clunks, just noticed it today when looking for another oil drip issue (3rd diff flange seal in 1 year...)
I've seen the price, around 86 euros at this side of the pond. There is another pattern part much cheaper but... due to the time consuming job in replacing it won't risk. My question is if it's viable to take a shortcut in order to make bush swap faster and simpler, I mean
1.- undo sway bar links from axle, not from the sway bar
2.- Take of RH wheel and lift vehicle on a ramp
3.- Undo bolt 23 (long actuator arm from torsion bar) and 24 (actuator to short arm)
4.- Actuator is free and can be moved out of the way and long arm removed
5.- Same time tie long arm with actuator somewhere in order not to kink-force ACE flex pipes
6.- Drop anti roll bar and extract bush and insert new one.
7.- Reverse order of removal
This saves a lot of time and hassle and dsipenses having to bleed the dreaded ACE system.
In 13 years and 145K Kms or so I might change as well the sway bar bushes as will e past their sell-by date
Is this a feasible option? How about in the rear end, where everything is pretty much more crowded?
propshaft will be out as well in order to replace drive flange and seal
I've seen 2 alternatives, the genuine ones (at around 86 euros each) and the non genuine (britpart or whatever) around 15 euros each.
Did anyone test the "aftermarket" one?
Best regards and thank you
Robert

Hi,
of course I will be going genuine or OEM, but.. has anybody done this before? Can it be done leaving the actuator as is and dropping the whole anti-roll bar assembly?
Thanks again and best regards from up and over
Robert
While you are doing this job take a look at the caps that hold the sway bar in place. They crack.
Check this link;
D2 ACE Torsion bar mounts cracked
Thanks! I did not know about that particular crack but will for sure double check in order to ascertain its state, because mine is from the very first ones built (11/98) so might probably be on the risky side.
So far: new bar bushes
and new actuator bushes...still uncertain about the shortcut to replace them
let the fun begin!
Hi Robert,
I just yesterday received two of the Britpart bushes as both mine are shot as well. The supplier has advised me that Britpart has stated they have sold hundreds and have only ever had one returned and also give a one year warranty. I decided to give them a try as they are a bush and I am doing it myself and not paying some one to install.
I am intending on also removing the nut from the other end of the actuator, leaving Ace lines connected, tie up and remove long arm and bar. I also have the bushes for the long arm if needed.
I may get around to doing soon.
Regards,
Chris
Hi there,
My local stockist had the genuine ones on backorder. I talked to Britpart Spain and they assured me their bushes were OEM, so, fingers crossed I ordered them.
Once fitted, only time will tell
Cheers from Spain
How did you get on with these bushes, are they easy enough to replace?, I will need to do mine shortly
Hi, how did you get on doing this, and did you use the method in the original post, ie not bleed or drain the ACE, but remove the actuator, and tie it back, then remove the torsion bar?
How did it go?
How does the bush come out of the short arm, and how do you replace it, is it simply pressed in?
Thanks
