    3 amigos.... gone!

After having some more CV's put into the Disco (yep, broke Maxidrive ones with reinforcing rings) I have had a heap of 3 amigo probs.

The front PS was a matter of replacing the sensor assembly as the CV had cut the wire. That fault cleared out without problems.

The front DS was a problem. Fault wouldn't clear, plug cleaning wouldn't fix it, more plug cleaning still didn't fix it, sensor resistance was within spec, changed to a replacement sensor and still no good as the sensor was still faulting with low voltage or something, check the resistance of the replacement sensor and it was also within spec.

Today I thought that perhaps the sensor ring may have been damaged when the CV's were replaced. Pulled the drivers front wheel off, caliper out, caliper housing off, rotor off and pulled the sensor out. ABS ring had some grease on it but it looked undamaged to the eye, looking through the ABS sensor port the ABS ring also looked fine. There was grease inbetween the teeth and I wondered if this had any effect on the magnetic attraction between the sensor and the sensor ring.... who knows but I cleaned the grease out with some wire also through the ABS sensor port. Reassemble, clear faults and test drive.

    No 3 amigos!!!!!!

I was so happy to drive, look at my dash and see...... nothing!

Grease in the ABS ring, who would have thought.
    Cheers

My wheel hub had grease between the teeth but it tested fine on a CRO and the fault was a wheel sensor. It had a broken wire just behind the wheel hub where they flex when you steer. I have also heard of someone that filled up the cavity in the wheel hub with grease and this stopped the 3 Amigoes! Hope they are gone for you!

Simon, if the grease has even a small amount of conductive material, IE metal particles etc it will/ can cause a lack of triggering effect. Good clean grease shouldn't cause this phenomena.

    Glad its sorted
