    D2 - Time for a service

    Hi guys,

Time has come for me to give the Landy (Td5) a service and I wanted to ask people's thoughts on which oil is the best?

I was also hoping for any handy hints etc when doing the filter and pump?

    Cheers

    G'day Wheelz,

If you click on the big AULRO banner at the top of the page, then scroll down, under Technical you will see a section called The Good Oil.

In there, you will find all of the info you want, and probably much much more.

Opinions on oils are like noses. Everyone has got one. LOL...

Rule of thumb is, buy the best that you can afford that suits the application.

If your in Newcastle, go to ALL4x4 at Kotara and see Dave in the spare parts.

Ask him for a TD5 service kit and oil, Oli is 10Lts 5w40 (you need 7.5Lts for the service) for $75, every 4th service no need to buy oil , the filter kit has all filters and will set you back $65

Urban Panza has a great guide on the service, dont forget to grease the prop shafts

    That was 3 weeks ago

I agree with the adice to buy the best you can.
    Follow manufacturers specs on the oil;
Would you buy an Chinese copy of a diff pinion because it is $50 cheaper or go for an OEM product???
Oil is cheap compared to a premature engine overhaul.

"I was also hoping for any handy hints etc when doing the filter and pump?"

Which pump are you referring to? do you mean the rotor filter?

On engine oils 5w40 where I live. I have used Valvolene Synpower full synthetic and Penrite HPR 50 semi sythetic. Can find no difference just the price, still changed them at the same km's and I can buy one in a 10l bottle with a tap.
