Windsor is smaller that rover V8
Rover V8, Chevy V8, Ford V8?
I went through this very exercise of considering putting a 4.6 in my D2a, after driving one with a 4.6 fitted I gave up on that option as not being worth the expence for the small gain in power.
In all seriousness for the expence and trouble to fit a Chev and then upgrade all the drive train to suit why not just go buy a V8 D3.
You get a far superior vehicle with a excellent 4.4 V8 that goes like stink uses less fuel and that is cheap to buy as everyone wants the TDV6. If you drove a V8 D3 I bet you would fall in love with it and I bet it would not cost anymore in the long run then fitting a Chev with all the gear and would have far better resale value.
That is what I did anyway except I brought a TDV6 which also blows the doors off of a V8 D2 without trying. If anything I must admit part of me regrets that I actually brought the diesel, I should have taken my own advice and brought the V8.
Just a thought... ;)

gawd,, you are such a rev head Terry,,
;)
just costed the "install top hat liner" problem,,
local firm will bore/hone/deck/machine and install(liners) for $600,,
add to that the $230 for liners, $3200 for stroker kit,
the rest is labour,
its starting to look do-able,,
and I end up with a 5L on gas,,
with any luck I wont have to,,,
but I dont have any luck this year,,,
Hey Pedro,
Long time no speak...
The whole idea of repowering any vehicle with a larger engine is to get more power which logic would say means you need / want more power for your particular driving application. So the question needs to be asked has anyone actually driven a 5.0L to see how good they actually go compared to a 4.6L or even a 4.0L?
Sometimes extra cubes doesn't always mean that much extra powerwise. I have been in vehicles with low spec Chevy 454's fitted that felt much slower then similar vehicles with healthy 327's fitted.
One thing I have learned the hard way is claimed increased HP outputs by people selling go fast gear in many cases means bugger all.
cheers,
Terry
Hi Pedro
Who is the local firm that does the install of the flanged liners? Are they ones TRS use?
Brett at Hurst and Brunner did the quote,,
That's not a bad price at all Pedro. I reckon a little lick of the ports on the heads to clean up any casting dags plus a clean up of the inlet manifold would help make the most of cc increase.
I had a look at rave the other day and apparently all D2 V8 EMS have a 4.6 tune in them and can be activated by testbook. Would this help with the increase in capacity? I wouldn't know if there is a big difference between 4 and 4.6 tunes??
Won't be a firebreathing high revving monster but should have respectable torque. It would have the same characteristics as a 5.8 EFI windsor last seen in ambulances with larger capacity and small intake runners and ports. Breathless but great for low end torque.
Interesting about the 4.6 tune. Who in Sydney has a test book apart from dealers? Mine runs well enough and is more efficient than the 4.0 as is.
Clubgreenie your not wrong there very interesting, who in Perth has one of these testbooks to tune mine. It runs excellent and like wise on fuel very happy.
