New update, with spare key (not in fob) if it arms (possibly the passive immobiliser) both waving the fob in the area of the key & turning to off and then restarting will both work to start.
The D1 barrel is about $90- new, a D2 at least $400- from memory.

Alas Clubagreenie, my spare key is still uncut and unprogramed. However, what you suggest should work. I have heard of people using the new keys that come with a new ignition barrel but keeping the old fob keyless on the key ring to enable the engine to start. LRT

Ignition Barrel removal
Clubagreenie, I am ordering a new ignition barrel with keys, from Rover Parts Plus. Land Rover parts - IGNITION LOCK ASSY - L/R DISC (MA>)+R/ROV (MA>) (NON GENUINE)
In the workshop manual, it says to remove the steering column assembly in order to remove the ignition barrel.
Do you have to do this to remove and replace the ignition barrel?
