It is often the case that it may or may not work straight away due to the fact it has been "idle" for many years most likely.

The best thing to do is jack up one front wheel and move the lever to see if its actually locking up the centre diff, if it is then make sure it also unlocks it.

If its working "mechanically" then the adjustment should be ok. Also worth checking the spade terminals on the diff lock switch are clean and corrosion free "if" the light on the dash is not behaving as it should.

Often after a good "play" offroad where you can get the CDL in and out a good few times, it will then behave as it should.

When you engage the centre diff lock you may need to move your Disco a litle.
This will allow the centre diff gears to line up and the light should then come on.
Same when diss-engaging, you may need to move to free up the gears(the light will go out).
    Cheers, Kyle

Thats what we had to do. Bit disconcerting to start wit but after a couple of days it went in and out no probs and the light came on. Now it gets played with regularly
