Thanks Alien, that was one I found but there was another that showed the actual unit exposed so I could see the retaining clips, at least I think I did.....
I think I've worked it out but need to remove the 'Cage' the stereo sits in to get at them. It seems to be held in there with clips but not sure. Very firmly attached it seems. Any clues?

Maybe there is a screw or nut at the rear of the cage?

Never been into that part of my dash but now I know who to ask if I need to

Worst part is, I didn't need to take the bloody stereo out afterall
Oh well, we do own these things so that we have an adventure right at home in the shed don't we

That link is correct, you need to remove the cup holders to gain access. There is no point in removing the stereo, unless your replacing the globes in that as well. When I removed mine to replace the blown globes I also had the clock unit out as well. With a bit of finger poking the unit just popped out, it helps if you can see the two tabs that need to be pushed back a bit.

It was a quick one minute job to remove the climate control unit.

    Cheers
    Ron

p.s. looks like we posted at the same time, good to see that you got it out okay.
