Yea NOW it's legal.

I got defected a few months before the law changed. Some bored copper pulled me over, and defected me for having too dark tint on the windows.

This was despite that when I picked the car up from the dealer, I specifically said that I wanted the darkest LEGAL tint.

When I was at the local station getting the defect cleared, after removing the replacement tint in front of a slightly bewildered officer, they tested the standard glass, and surprise surprise, the FACTORY tint was still too dark (just) to be legal.

The officer clearing the defect used her discretion, and passed it, but I have never gotten around to replacing the tint.

So, my windows are all LR standard, and the rears are darker than the front.

The official DTEI document is located here: http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/...or_Vehicle.pdf

Key Points:-

Front windows - Light transmittance now reduced from 70% to 35%
Windows behind drivers seat - Must be 35% transmittance of higher

So in SA we can now go darker up front legally.
